Proven MBG Free Nutritious Meals Boost Kids’ Focus

The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program has been proven to have a significant impact on children’s concentration levels, as evidenced by short-term memory assessments. This improvement is expected to contribute to increased motivation for learning among students.

Studies conducted in Aceh and by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) have shown that students who receive Free Nutritious Meals experience improved concentration. This promising outcome not only supports better educational results but also boosts children’s determination to continue their education, as stated by Ikeu Tanziha, an Expert Council Member of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), in Jakarta.

The MBG program has shown to enhance learning focus and cognitive performance among students in areas such as Bogor and Papua, especially for those who skip breakfast. One case study conducted at State Vocational School 6 (SMK Negeri 6) in Medan revealed a significant increase in attendance motivation and class concentration due to the MBG program.

Concentration is closely related to attention and the brain’s ability to process stimuli, Ikeu explained. Various factors, such as learning motivation, nutritional intake, psychological well-being, and physiological conditions like sleep quality and environmental factors, can influence a child’s ability to concentrate.

Nutritional intake, including key nutrients like proteins, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids, plays a crucial role in brain development and cognitive function, particularly memory. According to Ikeu, the MBG Program aims to meet children’s nutritional needs not only for physical growth but also to enhance cognitive potential and intelligence.

Despite challenges such as unhealthy eating habits and limited access to nutritious foods in certain regions, Ikeu emphasized the importance of collective efforts in supporting the successful implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals Program. It is believed that this initiative will bring long-term benefits for future generations and society as a whole.
