A group of farmers from Karawang, West Java, attended the 80th Independence Day Ceremony of the Republic of Indonesia at Merdeka Palace on Sunday (Aug 17) with excitement. President Prabowo Subianto extended a special invitation to the farmers, emphasizing his vision of food self-sufficiency. Rifki Habibie, representing the Karawang farmers, expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the ceremony, highlighting their support for government programs aimed at enhancing farmers’ welfare.
The farmers, still wearing their traditional rice-field hats, were filled with joy and awe as they experienced the event firsthand after usually watching it on television. They reiterated their commitment to upholding food sovereignty in Karawang by ensuring the stability of rice and paddy production. Their message was clear – they are ready to support President Prabowo’s efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency and hoped for continued government support for farmers in the region.
During the ceremony, the farmers also praised President Prabowo’s affordable fertilizer program, which they see as a significant step towards food sector independence. They expressed their desire for affordable fertilizers, high rice prices during harvest, and overall success for Karawang farmers in their agricultural endeavors.
