Indonesia celebrated its 80th Independence Day, marking a significant milestone that goes beyond just a ceremonial event. It serves as a reminder of the nation’s core values, emphasizing that true independence involves freedom from hunger, ignorance, and underdevelopment. In line with this, the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program was introduced, symbolizing a concrete form of independence in the realm of nutrition. More than just a food assistance initiative, the program represents an investment in Indonesia’s future, particularly in the well-being and potential of its children.

Noudhy Valdryno, also known as Ryno, Deputy for Dissemination and Media Information, highlighted the importance of the MBG program. He stated that through this initiative, millions of schoolchildren, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers across the country now have access to nutritious meals daily. The program not only enhances children’s concentration and academic performance but also supports their physical and cognitive development. With a long-term vision of creating an outstanding generation towards Indonesia Emas 2045, MBG is positioned as a foundation for prosperity.

Recognized by international organizations, the MBG program has reached eight million beneficiaries, including students from various educational levels, pregnant women, and toddlers. Experts like Ikeu Tanziha from the National Nutrition Council (BGN) have observed measurable benefits from the program, such as an improvement in Body Mass Index (BMI) among children and adolescents in participating regions. Additionally, MBG has shown positive effects on classroom concentration and cognitive abilities, reinforcing its impact on education.

Moreover, the economic influence of MBG is evident through job creation in Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) kitchens and support for small businesses. Stories like Suratina, a grandmother working in an SPPG kitchen in Yogyakarta Special Region, reflect the program’s broader impact on individuals and communities. Beyond economic benefits, MBG has fostered a sense of community and support among beneficiaries, echoing the program’s holistic approach towards nutrition and well-being.
