Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development (Wamendukbangga) Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka emphasized the importance of parents staying updated on their children’s interests and encouraging physical activities to prevent addiction to games and gadgets. Isyana highlighted the need for parents to continuously learn and upgrade themselves, as children often learn faster and parents must catch up. She pointed out that children tend to seek “cheap dopamine” from social media and online games, which can lead to addiction. Isyana also highlighted the significance of outdoor activities and sunlight in obtaining dopamine, stressing that the human body is designed to move.
In the discussion themed The Role of Family Development in Welcoming a Golden Indonesia 2045, organized by the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) in collaboration with Gempita, Isyana shared her insights. She echoed Veronica Tan’s program Ruang Bersama Indonesia (RBI), which provides a safe and inclusive space for women, children, and communities to empower themselves, learn, play, and foster creativity. Through RBI, Tan aims to offer children access to safe creative spaces, engage in traditional and creative games, participate in sports, and steer clear of gadget addiction.
As parents play a crucial role in guiding their children’s activities and interests, Isyana and Tan’s messages underscore the importance of promoting physical activities and creative spaces to prevent children from becoming addicted to games and gadgets.
