Senator Aanya Rina Casmayanti, as a representative from West Java, visited Garut Regency to delve into strategic development issues. In an official meeting at the Garut Regent Office, Aanya engaged in a dialogue with Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin to listen to the local community’s complaints and hopes.

Various crucial topics emerged during the meeting, ranging from infrastructure obstacles, low quality of human resources, to proposals for administrative territorial expansion in the vast and geographically diverse Garut region.

“I came to Garut as a moral and political responsibility to ensure that every voice from the region, especially the people of Garut, can be brought to the national level,” Aanya told the media on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

During the meeting, Regent Syakur raised three main urgent issues that he believed needed immediate follow-up from the central government:

1. Territorial Expansion of Garut: With a population of 2.8 million and a geographical stretch from mountains to the southern coast, Syakur deemed territorial expansion a necessity. “Traveling from the city center to the southern region can take up to four hours. This affects uneven public services,” he explained.

2. Human Development Index (HDI) Improvement: Garut is still classified as one of the areas with the lowest HDI in West Java. According to Syakur, this directly contributes to low purchasing power and community welfare. He hopes for affirmative policies from the central government to address this inequality.

3. Getaci Toll Road Project: The progress of the Gedebage-Tasikmalaya-Cilacap Toll Road (Getaci) construction is deemed crucial to accelerate regional connectivity. Currently, land acquisition has only reached 50%, and the compensation process is ongoing. The completion target is set for 2025. “We are pushing for the acceleration of this project while maintaining environmental balance,” said Syakur.

He added that around 60% of Garut’s area is a conservation zone, limiting the development space. Nevertheless, Garut plays a significant role in maintaining ecological balance and oxygen supply for the West Java region.

The meeting also discussed the use of Village Funds in Citangtu Village. The Head of the Empowerment of Community and Village Department in Garut Regency, Wawan Nurdin, stated that they had provided guidance to village heads and reiterated the commitment to complete all activities by the end of July 2025. “The Village Head has agreed to complete all programs by July 31 at the latest,” he said.

Furthermore, Wawan also highlighted the allocation of General Allocation Fund (DAU) which is now partly directed to pay Contract-based Government Employees (P3K). In Garut Regency, there are around 8,000 P3K employees waiting for clarity on funding. “The budget issue for P3K is also our concern. This is not a small amount, and a real solution is needed from the center,” he emphasized.
