President Prabowo Subianto denounced corrupt practices in Indonesia’s rice trade during the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB). He promised to take action against companies that manipulate and increase the price of subsidized rice, estimating annual losses to be as high as Rp100 trillion. Prabowo highlighted the contradiction in subsidizing various aspects of rice production, only for the final product to be repackaged and sold at inflated prices. He revealed that 212 rice milling companies have been caught engaging in these deceptive practices. The President emphasized the severity of the issue, labeling it as criminal and a violation of the Constitution. He stressed the significant impact these losses could have on public services and has directed the National Police Chief and Attorney General to investigate and prosecute those involved. Prabowo underscored that his actions are not personal but stemmed from a commitment to upholding the constitutional mandate to control sectors crucial to the nation’s well-being.
